You Have An Absolute Right To Free Speech As Long As You Keep Your Ass Where No One Can Hear You

If he were alive today, Thomas Jefferson would shoot Mayor Hickenlooper in the fucking face.
Protesters who want to march to the site of the Democratic National Convention will have to end their processions several blocks short of the Pepsi Center, according to the route released Thursday by Denver city officials.
The special parade route, put together by the city to balance the desires of protest groups with the needs of downtown businesses, angered the protesters, who had hoped to be able to end their marches within sight and sound of the convention hall
“This is not an appropriate parade route,” said Re-create 68’s Glenn Spagnuolo. “I’m not being able to march in front of the event site at the Pepsi Center. That’s the target audience. Your political protest is completely ineffective if … you’re not even allowed to march to where your intended audience is.”
The route begins at Civic Center park and runs down West Colfax Avenue to the southbound lanes of Speer Boulevard until it reaches Larimer Street and ends. A wide divide separates the end point from the Pepsi Center, which will hold the delegates from 4 to 9 p.m. nightly Aug. 25-28. The U.S. Secret Service, responsible for protecting the convention, has yet to release its security perimeter.

Interesting legal construction, i.e.: the idea that 1st Amendment rights must 1) be balanced against “business interests,” and 2) are diminished insofar as they might interfere with the accrual of profit.
Even if this were a valid constitutional interpretation—which it is not—there are rather few businesses in the immediate area of the Pepsi Center. Hence, there’s no particular interest to be balanced.
Maybe this is why they’re called Demopublicans.
Or is that Republicrats?

Republicrats has a better ring to it.
The first really tall building closest to the Pepsi Center is located on Larimer. I heard a board member for that building saying that they’re negotiating allowing the police and others to use it as a kind of headquarters. Interesting that this is also to be the terminal of the parade route. They’re going to have protesters march right to the highest concentration of civil militant force in the area. I thought that bit of information might be of interest.

The attorneys seem to think the City is not palying nice, the R-68 folks think the City is not playing nice, but Adam of Tent State thinks the City is just great to work with. Good to see such positive employee, employeer relationships in the City staff. We are happy for you Adumb.

Great post, Stella.
Benny, what the fuck is Snapple doing on this blog?
Tyndale, your point about “Adam Jung” is right on target. Add in the fact that while the main credential the boy’s presented to establish himself as an organizer in Denver is the role he supposedly played in putting together the protests during the Miami convention, nobody known to have been involved in organizing for Miami remembers him at all.
Add as well the fact that since Jung blew into town and appointed himself to the media spokesperson, the media—e.g., Mike Milloy—has suddenly started wondering out loud whether our own Glenn Spagnuolo isn’t a “police provocateur.”
As Ward Churchill and Jim Vander Wall explain in their “Agents of Repression” and again in “The COINTELPRO Papers,” the technique currently being used against Spagnuolo is called “bad-jacketing.”
Thus, Mr. Jung’s behavior has “cop” written all over it. And even if he’s not technically a cop, “you don’t have to be a cop to do a cop’s work.”
The man should be treated accordingly.

Actually, Churchill DIDN’T say “COINTELPRO was used against AIM,” dipshit. What he DID say was that many/all the techniques by which COINTELPRO were used against AIM—and other targets—after use of the cryptonym was discontinued on order of J. Edgar Hoover in 1971. In other words, it was “COINTELPRO by any other name.”
That explained—for the umpteenth time—here’s a question. Since Jim Vander Wall coaithored both of Churchill’s books on COINTELPRO, how come you never get around to mentioning Vander Wall?
More to the point, how is it that you think the passages you’re misrepresenting weren’t Vander Wall’s?
I could say I hoped that your poetry might be superior to your logic—to say nothing of your reading skills—but there’d be no point.

Wow, I can see Paine does his own interior design. I guess this way the shit he smears all over every time he tries to re-learn how to wipe won’t be so obvious.

quite a poem.
–need more information about Jung. maybe his latest reading or thinking makes him susceptible to divide/conquer denouncing the ‘crazy’ left. But responding to the same idea of people planted at protests- 5 yrs ago police in California arrested over 1000 entirely legal marchers at a Not in Our Name rally. 300 had been lead off the main route down a side street where suddenly a line of officers stepped out at the end of the block everyone was arrested for supposedly jaywalking. Several people were suspicious of the man posted in comments here because he had directed people down the alley but wasn’t arrested, and earlier he had given a really incendiary speech, but they didn’t know him. Yet, he could have been from an isolated communist sect or had few friends yet natural leadership qualities. at this major antiwar event, an indymedia reporter familiar with lots of the police said that the captain was driving around with some federal officer in a Chevy tahoe giving directins to do this stuff.

Most intelligent thing Snapple has ever said. Most honest, too.

Now I’m sorry I missed it. Hey, did that intellectual husk called “Laurie” finally crumble to bits or what?
